According to this Yahoo Sports article, Phil Jackson recently stated that Dennis Rodman was the greatest athlete he ever coached. Better than Jordan, Pippen, Kobe? Even better than the great Luc “I got hops” Longley?
When I read this, I actually wasn’t that surprised. I always loved watching Rodman play when he was with the Bulls. He always looked like he was jumping around the court on a pogo stick. And I remember hearing about how he would finish a game and then hit the gym to lift weights and do some cardio while the other guys showered up and left the stadium.
Man, I miss the good ole’ days when the Bulls were actually good. It’s depressing to think about the past!

Major in Religion! Become a Librarian!
Filed Under Libraries | 2 Comments
More often than not, people give me a surprised look when I tell them that I’m a librarian. I think there are a couple of explanations for this. First, as a male librarian, or guybrarian if you’d like, I’m definitely in the minority and it’s safe to say I don’t fit into most people’s idea of librarians. Second, there aren’t many Asian Americans that go into librarianship, so that makes me part of even a smaller minority. To be honest, if you asked me back in my college years what I wanted to do with my life, I would have never even thought of being a librarian as a possibility, even though I worked as a student worker in a couple of academic libraries.
The reality is that libraries just don’t come to mind when most people are thinking of choosing a career. Amy Kearns at Library Garden recently wrote about how she went from majoring in philosophy to becoming a librarian. I had a similar path and from what I can tell, a lot of people come by librarianship in a roundabout way. I wonder if that’ll ever change.

What’s it worth to you?

Another great post by Jamie LaRue:
Health insurance for your family: $600 each month
Cell phones (3 lines): $90 per month
Monthly phone bill: $50 per month
Cable television subscription: $40 per month
Movies: $10 apiece, 2 people (not including popcorn), twice a month = $40 per month
Average cost (in 2006) of a single hardback nonfiction book: $30
Average cost (in 2006) of a single paperback nonfiction book: $19.25
Public libraries: ?????What would you pay? Would you pay $20 a month for high speed internet access, unlimited access to comprehensive consumer health information, all the books you can read, all the movies you can watch, all the programs you can attend, free meeting rooms? Sound reasonable?
Of course it does — and yet such a level of support for a public library would equal at least twice the average public library support in Colorado alone.
