According to this Yahoo Sports article, Phil Jackson recently stated that Dennis Rodman was the greatest athlete he ever coached. Better than Jordan, Pippen, Kobe? Even better than the great Luc “I got hops” Longley?

When I read this, I actually wasn’t that surprised. I always loved watching Rodman play when he was with the Bulls. He always looked like he was jumping around the court on a pogo stick. And I remember hearing about how he would finish a game and then hit the gym to lift weights and do some cardio while the other guys showered up and left the stadium.

Man, I miss the good ole’ days when the Bulls were actually good. It’s depressing to think about the past!

Another great post by Jamie LaRue:

Health insurance for your family: $600 each month
Cell phones (3 lines): $90 per month
Monthly phone bill: $50 per month
Cable television subscription: $40 per month
Movies: $10 apiece, 2 people (not including popcorn), twice a month = $40 per month
Average cost (in 2006) of a single hardback nonfiction book: $30
Average cost (in 2006) of a single paperback nonfiction book: $19.25
Public libraries: ?????

What would you pay? Would you pay $20 a month for high speed internet access, unlimited access to comprehensive consumer health information, all the books you can read, all the movies you can watch, all the programs you can attend, free meeting rooms? Sound reasonable?

Of course it does — and yet such a level of support for a public library would equal at least twice the average public library support in Colorado alone.

I’ve never had to write a response to a book challenge (i.e., someone requesting (or demanding) that a particular book be removed from a library), but if I do, I’ll come back to Jamie Larue’s response to one of his library users’ request to have “Uncle Bobby’s Wedding” removed from the Douglas County Libraries.

I heard Jamie Larue speak at an NSLS workshop a couple of months ago and he was great. One of the best speakers I’ve heard in terms of what he said and how he said it. I highly recommend subscribing to his blog.
